Super fast, super sleek, super fly

Homemade super car joins airplane on man's list of accomplishments

Dan Morocco of Andover has given a whole new definition to "boys and their toys."

The Andover psychologist has just finished building a two-seater super car. How super?

The black Lamborghini body has a red racing stripe and a Corvette engine. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in just over 3 seconds. And reaching 200 mph is a piece of cake.

It's loud, it's fast and it was so worth spending the last 18 months to piece it together, he said.

He's driven the car around town, including Easter Sunday when he parked outside CVS on Main Street and ran in to get earplugs.

His super car does not have a muffler. He bought the earplugs and came out to his vehicle, which had attracted a crowd. He happily answered questions and posed for pictures.

"I really enjoy talking about it and answering questions," he said, "maybe it will help someone."

The car has 130 miles on it, as Morocco has driven it to the beach. He wouldn't say how fast he drove on the beach trip.

Sure, speed is thrilling for this 63-year-old, but that's only one part of why he built the car from a kit.

"I do it for friendship. I have met so many nice people," he said. "The car was the catalyst for friendships."

Among those friends is David Brown, service manager at Woodworth Motors in Andover. Morocco asked Brown many questions as he pieced together the car, and Woodworth technician helped with wiring.

"It's just incredible that he pieced together all those individual pieces," Brown said. "Yes, it's a super car. It goes so fast and goes 0 to 60 in about 3.4 seconds...just incredible." Brown said Morocco's super car-building hobby is unusual. He knows of no one else building a car.
