State House volunteers from Andover honored

Five high school students from Andover were honored recently for their volunteer work this summer at the Massachusetts State House.

Secretary of the Commonwealth William F. Galvin recently hosted the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon and Doric Docent Book Award presentation at the historic building to honor the students.

Each year over 95,000 people visit the State House. Andover students Lee Dennis, Carter Durland, Ben Dykstra, Melissa Lee and Charley Lei were among the volunteers who helped to show the visitors around the state capitol building, the oldest building on Beacon Hill. The building and its grounds cover two city blocks.

“This event is an opportunity to recognize high school students for their outstanding service as volunteer State House Tour Guides this summer,” according to a release from Galvin’s office about the appreciation luncheon.

Each student received a certificate of appreciation from Galvin.
