Former Andover police patrolman Evan Robitaille was arraigned this week in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn on drunken driving and other charges based on an incident that happened over a year ago.
In addition to a charge of operating under the influence of liquor, Robitaille, 32, of Groveland, has been charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and misleading a police officer.
On Monday, he pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance. His next court date is May 29 for a pre-trial conference.
During the morning of March 11, 2013, Robitaille allegedly rear-ended a box truck on Interstate 495 south in Tewksbury and then took off, exiting the highway at Woburn Street. He was later determined to be intoxicated, based on several eyewitness reports.
Initially, he was put on paid administrative leave. Last October, after an internal affairs investigation, he was placed on unpaid leave from the Andover Police Department. He resigned about a month later.
