The Andover Townsman
---- — The staff of the Andover Townsman was honored during a reception last month to celebrate the winning of its parent company’s Newspaper of the Year and Reporter of the Year awards.
Donna J. Barrett, the president and CEO of Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc., joined other executives from CNHI and North of Boston Media Group in presenting the large, silver Newspaper of The Year/Non-Dailies cup to Townsman editor Sonya Vartabedian and her staff.
Bill Kirk, reporter of the year in the non-dailies category, was presented with a plaque by Barrett and CNHI Vice President for News Bill Ketter.
Also on hand for the event were CNHI Chief Operating Officer Keith Blevins and North of Boston Media Group Publisher Karen Andreas.
Al White, editor of The Eagle-Tribune, who also oversees the Townsman; Jim Falzone, general manager of North of Boston Media Group; and CNHI vice president David Joyner, who is national editor of the company, also attended.
Townsman reporter Judy Wakefield and former Townsman reporter Dustin Luca, who is now a staff reporter for The Eagle-Tribune’s New Hampshire office, were also part of the celebration.
Vartabedian praised the work of reporters Kirk, Luca, Wakefield and sports writer Dave Willis for their tireless and comprehensive reporting that helped the Townsman win Newspaper of the Year honors in its division. She also applauded the talents of the photography staff led by Amy Sweeney and design team led by Dan Ryan for their contributions to the success of the weekly community newspaper.
She credited, too, the work of the advertising and circulation departments as well as office manager and editorial assistant Betsy Curry for their efforts as part of The Townsman’s team.
Other North of Boston Media Group publications were also honored with awards in their respective categories during a separate event at the company’s North Andover facility.
