Recycling/trash data collection under way

The Town of Andover Department of Public Works has begun a recycling/trash data collection project this summer. The project will involve interns driving and/or walking the collection routes gathering data on an iPad. Collected data will be used in a summary report for DPW purposes only and will not be shared.

Anyone with questions should contact Sandy Gerraughty, DPW business manager, at 978-623-8350, ext. 515, or

Red Cross blood drive July 9

The American Red Cross will hold a community blood drive Tuesday, July 9, from 2 to 7 p.m. at St. Augustine Church, 35 Essex St., Andover. All eligible and new blood donors are encouraged to give blood. Blood donors are needed every day to ensure an adequate blood supply for patients in need.

The summer months can be a challenging time for blood collections. Donations tend to decline due to high school and college vacations, summer travel and other planned activities. However, the blood needs of hospital patients do not get a vacation.

In July, all presenting donors will receive a coupon for $2.50 off the purchase of a 48-ounce container of Turkey Hill’s All Natural Ice Cream. Those who come out to donate blood will also have the chance to win two Boston Red Sox tickets and to be honored at Fenway Park as the Blood Donor of the Game.

To make an appointment to donate blood, call 1-800-RED CROSS (733-2767) or visit
