A paint brush just might end up in a full wine glass. But so what?
It’s a spirited art class with wine, snacks and music for adults in Andover after all. It’s BYOB too, and certainly lives up to its name — The Spirited Painter painting class.
It’s a hot new trend as more and more adults are paying $35 apiece to paint and sip for two hours at Metamorphosis Art & Design studio on Essex Street.
Beth Prawdzik owns the studio with Elaine Trepicchio and Katie Nagy, all Andover moms, with eight kids between them. This artsy trio excitedly called the art class “their new baby.” Class-goers are just as excited to try something different. And, packing a bottle of wine with snacks makes the class even more fun.
“We have book clubs, girlfriend get-togethers and guys, too, who come. It’s different and it’s fun. People are very pleased at the end of class,” Prawdzik said.
The owners have hosted a family reunion, a class of engineers looking to relax a bit and birthday parties for adults since The Spirited Painter started.
“It’s just a fun night,” Trepicchio said. “I think the key is that lots of people like to paint and this class lets them paint and relax a bit.”
Students get all the needed supplies for a class, including aprons, paint brushes, paint, canvas and easels.
Each class features at least one staffer and an artist who offers painting tips and answers questions.
There is a 10-person minimum for private parties and the studio can accommodate up to 25 artists. Participants choose a painting from the website gallery. Apron-clad participants paint a copy of the gallery painting they have chosen.
There have been paintings of vases, a wreath-decorated door for the holidays and colorful wine bottles in recent classes.
Metamphorsis runs The Spirited Painter classes on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
“It’s a very basic painting class and people are so happy with their finished piece,” Nagy said. “It’s great to see that.”
Town approval was needed and was granted for the BYOB part of The Spirited Painter class.
“We don’t serve wine so we didn’t have to get a license. The town was fine with BYOB,” Prawdzik said.
Metamorphosis Art & Design (metamorphosisartanddesign.com) was originally located in a small rental space at Olde Andover Village on Main Street. Now, two years later, the business is on Essex Street and morphed into a bigger and brighter one with this popular art class for adults.
