YMCA offers 'Membership for All' pricing structure
New Y member rates based on household income
The Andover/North Andover YMCA is offering membership rates based on household income, an effort to make the Y available to struggling families and individuals.
Individuals making less than $25,000 and families making less than $55,000 based on household income are eligible for the Y's new "Membership for All" program.
This new pricing structure, which took effect Nov. 1, will not replace the Merrimack Valley YMCA's current financial assistance program, which takes into consideration the members' overall situation, including the number of dependents and monthly income.
"For middle income families, many of whom are struggling in this difficult economy, our YMCA wants to continue to be accessible to all. Everyone deserves the opportunity to be part of the YMCA, to get healthy, stay physically active, and strengthen family bonds. We can help all people afford that opportunity," said Stephen Ives, Merrimack Valley YMCA president/CEO, in a press release.
"The YMCA is able to offer this sliding fee scale thanks to the generous donors whose contributions to our 'Reach Out for Youth & Families' annual campaign enable us to realize our mission of being open and accessible to all."
Members use the YMCA's wellness centers with cardiovascular and strength training equipment, group exercise classes (including Zumba, cardio kickboxing, Spinning, Step, Yoga, and more) gymnasiums for organized ball play or individual practice, and monthly family nights and special seasonal and holiday celebrations.
The Andover/North Andover branch also offers indoor swimming pools for swimming lessons, family fun swims, aquatic workouts and opportunities for organized, competitive swim teams.
For information or to apply for YMCA "Membership for All," stop by the Andover/North Andover YMCA, 165 Haverhill St. or visit www.mvymca.org.
