Alleged madam arrested in Ballardvale; Sting operation shuts down illicit massage parlor

Sting operation results in illicit massage parlor closure

An illicit massage parlor shut down in Ballardvale last week may have had ties to another location shuttered by Danvers police recently.

Andover police conducted a sting operation at 195 Andover St., Unit 2, on Wednesday, June 5, after receiving reports from employees in an adjacent business that men had been entering Qui’s Body Work for half-hour periods and then leaving.

An employee also reported that while throwing trash out at a Dumpster in the rear of the property, “a woman was observed caressing a male’s genitals in plain view through a window,” according to a report filed in Lawrence District Court by Patrolman Michael Lane.

On Thursday, June 6, after sending in an undercover officer, police arrested Yu Yun Chen, 45, of 133 Elmwood Ave., Quincy, and charged her with sexual conduct for a fee and operating an unlicensed massage business.

Chen was supposed to have been arraigned last week, but the court was unable to find a Mandarin interpreter. She has been released with an arraignment scheduled for June 24, according to court officials.

According to the report by Lane, on June 5 he was contacted by Officer David Carriere regarding a complaint he had received involving alleged prostitution at 195 Andover St., Unit 2, under the name of Qui’s Body Work.

Carriere was also approached by employees of an adjacent business who told him what they had seen.

Detective Kevin Aufiero also reported receiving a letter indicating that the business was operating as a massage parlor offering sexual services.

Lane said he had heard of similar businesses being shut down in North Andover.

Carriere alerted Lane to an advertisement on a Boston adult website offering “Amazing Chinese Body Work in Andover, MA.”

The ad gave the same street address and phone number used for Qui’s Body Work. According to the ad, prices were quoted as $40 for 30 minutes, $60 for 60 minutes and $100 for 60 minutes and “four hands.”
