Historical Society wins Essex Heritage grant
Andover Historical Society has won a 2013 Partnership Grant from Essex Heritage. The society was one of 10 nonprofit organizations to receive grants to implement a diverse range of educational, interpretive and preservation projects.
The historical society will use its grant to weave together the threads of fashion, industry, clothing construction and local history in the creation of “Behind the Seams Exhibition: Stories of Clothing, 1790-1920.” The exhibit will draw from the historical society’s 3,400-piece costume collection to present stories about social customs, economics and style preferences in Andover and beyond. It is expected to be unveiled this summer.
Essex Heritage’s Partnership Grant Program is a matching grant program created to foster and support the stewardship activities of municipalities and organizations that share its mission to preserve and promote the historic, cultural and natural resources of the Essex National Heritage Area.
