BoomerVenture targets sandwich generation
Energize with Exercise: Energizing workout regimen, focused on building flexibility and strength with a buffet of exercise options on Thursdays from now through Feb. 28 from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Cost is $45 for 8 weeks. No prior exercise experience required.
Serenity Yoga: Gentle yoga practice, featuring postures that emphasize strength, balance, flexibility and serenity of mind and body on Thursdays from now through Feb. 28 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $45 for 8 weeks. Suitable for all levels. Participants should bring a yoga mat, towel and pillow.
BoomerVenture Book Club will be held every second and fourth Thursday night, with rotating leadership, from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Free.

Notes from the Senior Center
Book Club will meet Thursday, March 13, to discuss "Founding Brothers" by Joseph Ellis. Copies of the books are available for check-out at the center and all are welcome. Group will be led by Evelyn Retelle.
Shingles Vaccine: The Andover Home For Aged People has given a gran to the Andover Health Department for shingles vaccine, Zostavax. Cost is $10 and is available to Andover residents 60 and older. Call the Health Department at 978-623-8295 for further information.
Men's Breakfast: "Holy Smoke" on Friday, March 14, at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $3. Advance reservations are required. Meet Mike Mansfield, Andover fire chief, who will give a PowerPoint presentation and lecture on the latest fire-fighting techniques as well as interesting information on search and rescue operations.
Information session: "My Life, My Health" on Tuesday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m. There is no charge. This six week program, developed by researchers at Stanford University Medical Center, includes strategies and techniques that have been proven to enhance the quality of life for people with chronic medical conditions. Whether you're dealing with arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure or other things, this class provides valuable insight into dealing with a variety of health challenges. Candidates' Forum: The Council on Aging Board will sponsor a candidates forum for those running for town offices on Friday, March 7, at 9:30 a.m. Come hear what candidates running for moderator, selectmen, School Committee and Housing Authority have to say. A continental breakfast will be served, and registration is requested.
Volunteer tax help is available by appointment for those who need help with tax preparation. Please note that this service is for simple, straightforward returns only. Please call the center at 978-623-8321 if you would like to schedule an appointment time.
An Irish History Course will be offered on Mondays, March 17, 24 and 31, at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $15. Registration is required. Topics to be covered will be "The Irish In Lawrence" with Casey Coburn; "Ireland Then & Now" with Elizabeth Shannon, wife of the former ambassador to Ireland, and "Original Irish Art", a gallery talk at Lorica Artworks.
Fix-It Shop: Volunteers will staff the next fix-it shop on Monday, March 3, at 1:30 p.m. They would be happy to take a look at any small appliances or household items in need of repair.
Movie Matinee: "The Nanny Diaries" will be shown on Monday, March 3, at 1 p.m. Adapted from the best selling novel, this heartwarming comedy revolves around the life of Annie Braddock, a recent college graduate from New Jersey whose nurse mother makes an unsuccessful bid to pressure her into a business career.
Flower Show Trip on Monday, March 10, at the Bayside Expo Center. Cost is $36. This year's theme, "Rhapsody In Green," reflects the interest in encouraging eco-friendly gardening practices while still presenting lavish colorful gardens. On display will be 35 professionally landscaped gardens, 270 vendors and 200 amateur exhibits.
"The Joy Of Herbs" on Tuesdays, March 11 and 18, at 1 p.m. Cost is $10. Included in this series will be information on growing herbs, both in the garden and in containers; harvesting and preserving herbs via drying and freezing; vinegars and oils, and hints and recommendations for cooking with herbs. Instructor will be Rita Wollmering, owner of the Herb Farm.
St. Pat's Party on Thursday, March 13, at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $3.50. Advance tickets only. Entertainment will be provided by Brian Corcoran, who has entertained in venues through the United States, Canada and Ireland. Reservations must be made separately for the corned-beef and cabbage lunch that will be served before the show.
"An Afternoon With Robert Frost" on Thursday, March 6, as part of the "Soup's On Series." Advance reservations only. Cost is $2. Presenter will be Stephen Collins. A short biographical lecture will be followed by a discussion of 6 of Frost's poems. This will be an interactive experience which will include lots of dialogue and discussion with the audience. "Emergency Preparedness For Seniors" on March 20 will contain important and valuable information on how to organize emergency documents, medications and medical supplies, pets, a communication plan, food staples, etc. Advanced registration only. Cost is $2. Free "Grab & Go Bags" and additional resources will be handed out at the program. Soup, dessert and beverages will be served at 12:30 p.m. Programs will begin at 1 p.m. Promptness is appreciated as a courtesy to the speakers.
Dinky Murphy's Wild & Crazy Irish Wake on Saturday, March 15, at the Amesbury Playhouse. Cost is $49 and includes dinner, admission, and transportation. This will be a fun-filled interactive celebration of the life of dear old Dinky with dinner and music by the Blarney Stone Balladeers.
Knit-Wits, a new drop-in group for those who enjoy knitting, will be on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. Instruction will also be provided for those who would like to learn or improve their techniques. You can bring your own project, or if you'd like to knit for the senior center, we'll supply the yarn if you lend your expertise. Group leader is Sue Finn.
Registration for the winter semester of the senior center/Andover "Y" collaborative classes is taking place at the center this week. Classes offered will be Men In Motion, Senior Spinning, Water Workout, Cardio Flex, Water Yoga and Fitness Walking. A class schedule and price sheet is available at the center.
Craft Group has resumed meeting on Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Come join us and bring your ideas for fall and holiday crafts as we gear up for fair season.
A licensed massage therapist will be on site every Monday morning for seated upper body chair massage. Therapeutic massage provides many health benefits including relaxation, improved circulation and joint mobility and improvement in muscular tension and body aches. Advance appointments are necessary and the reduced cost is $12 for a 20-minute treatment.

Selectmen to appoint 5th member
Selectmen plan to appoint their board's fifth member, to fill the seat being relinquished by Jerry Stabile Jr. - and they are already receiving plenty of interest in the job.

Residents vote on new school Dec. 6
Mark your calendars: a Special Town Meeting to approve plans for a new multimillion elementary school will be held Monday, Dec. 6.
