Main Street construction: The plan for the weeks ahead

Below is the June 19, 2008 update from the town concerning construction in the downtown area. Newport Construction, the contracter of the Main Street redesign, expects to begin work downtown on July 7. Most work before then is prepatory work and work by utility companies.

For the week ending June 28, 2008:

r Traffic signal work will begin at the Chestnut Street intersection.

r Bay State Gas will continue nighttime work downtown. Bay State Gas will continue to progress from the Old Andover Village Parking Lot towards Elm Square.

r Beginning June 24, Parking areas at Doherty Middle School on Bartlet Street and behind Free Christian Church on Elm Street are available for daytime all day employee parking. By mid-summer, nine additional spaces will be added to the municipal parking lot behind the Old Town Hall.

For the week ending July 3, 2008:

r Newport Construction will perform water line work at night beginning Sunday, June 29, at 7 p.m. and will continue for four nights. There may be water shut offs this week and additional information will be provided as to exact date, time and location.

r Newport Construction will continue work at Chestnut Street.

r Bay State Gas will continue night work and it is anticipated that i will reach Elm Square.Bay State Gas will need to do some work on Post Office Avenue as well.

Work expected between July 7 and July 19, 2008:

Newport Construction commences work downtown. Its schedule as of June 19, 2008 is as follows:

r On the west side of Main Street from Chestnut Street to Elm Square (i.e. TDBanknorth to Kaps), sidewalks will be excavated; existing curb will be removed; conduit, electric hand holes and new light poles will be installed; new curbing will be installed;, sidewalk will be prepared and new scored concrete will be poured and cured. This work will most likely take two full weeks.

r After Bay State Gas completes its night time work in Elm Square, it will return to daytime work due to the many residences between the Andover Safety Center and Stevens Street.
