Hurricane Sandy is having effects in Andover already: The accreditation visit to Andover High School scheduled to start today, Sunday, has been postponed.
A new date for the four-day visit by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges representatives has not yet been scheduled.
A press release from Marinel D. McGrath, superintendent of schools, is included below.
"This afternoon, NEASC Executive Director Janet Allison informed Superintendent Marinel McGrath and AHS Principal Chris Lord that she is postponing the NEASC accreditation visit for Andover High School scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28 through Wednesday, Oct. 31. Executive Director Allison said the reason for postponement is due to the impending storm since the NEASC visiting team members come from all over New England. Ms. Allison will work Supt. McGrath and Principal Lord to reschedule the visit in the near future," said the release.
Public high schools are accredited every 10 years. To be accredited means a school has conducted a self-evaluation of all of its programs and has hosted a visiting NEASC committee to evaluate the school in terms of its own stated educational goals and seven standards for accreditation established by an arm of NEASC called the Commission on Public Secondary Schools.
