---- — Here’s what’s coming up at Harold Parker State Forest off Jenkins Road in Andover:
THURSDAY, MAY 2
Bike Hike, 3 to 5 p.m.: A casual-paced bike ride through forest trails for families and those new to trail riding. Helmets required; appropriate for children over 10. Meet at Campground Nature Center.
FRIDAY, MAY 3
Soapstone Quarry Ramble, 10 a.m. to noon: A walk back in time touring the site of the old Jenkins blue soapstone quarry, the Skug River mill site and a glacial erratic. All ages; meet at Campground Nature Center.
Hikin’ Kids, 2 to 3 p.m.: A basic introduction to the forest and a short hike to acclimate children to the outdoors; appropriate for pre-K level.
SATURDAY, MAY 4
Gone Fishin’, 10 a.m. to noon: Learn the basics of pond fishing in New England; all fishing tackle and bait is provided. Appropriate for children over 6; meet at Campground Nature Center.
Thank the CCC, 2 to 3:30 p.m.: Discover the one-time builders of the forest – The Civilian Conservation Corps. All ages welcome; meet at Campground Nature Center.
TUESDAY, MAY 7
Senior Stroll, 10 to 11 a.m.: A slow-paced stroll on paved surfaces featuring the scenery around Frye Pond; meet at Campground Nature Center.
We Walk the Woods, 10 a.m. to noon: A slow-paced walk through the forest; a different part is featured for 12 hikes. Appropriate for children over 6; meet at Campground Nature Center.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 8
Let’s Explore the Pond, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.: All ages; children 12 and up must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at Campground Nature Center. Programs are open to the public. Bring water, wear sunscreen and bug spray, dress in layers and wear good footwear. An adult must accompany children. Activities will be canceled in the event of rain.
