All events are free and sponsored by the Friends of Memorial Hall Library:

Creative Café: Monday, Aug. 5, 7 p.m. Grab your craft supplies for a fun, monthly craft night. Meet other crafters and work on your own projects. Open to adults who knit, crochet, scrapbook and create other portable crafts.

Writers Group: Thursday, Aug. 8, 7 p.m. This group for writers of adult fiction, nonfiction and memoirs provides constructive advice and feedback on works in progress.

Boomer Bee Book Group: Thursday, Aug. 8, 7 p.m. Discussion on “The Imperfectionists” by Tom Rachman.

Busy Boomers Zentangle Art Demonstration: Thursday, Aug. 15, 7 to 8:30 p.m. A demonstration led by the library’s Emily Classon on an easy, new art form that promotes relaxation, encourages creativity and stimulates the brain. Follow up with a hands-on class at the library or The Center at Punchard this fall.

Sewn Sock Animals Demo: Thursday, Aug. 22, 2 to 4 p.m. The library’s Brooke Shoostine will demonstrate how to hand-sew stuffed animals from socks, creating cute critters ranging from monkeys to dogs that make great gifts.

MHL’s Monday Movie: Monday, Aug. 26, 6:30 p.m. Free monthly movie night with a chance to win the DVD of the featured selection. For more details, visit mhl.org/mondaymovies.

Groundbreaking Reads: Adult summer reading program continues through Aug. 23. To participate, read or listen to a book (yes, audio books count, too), and log your reading online to be eligible to win one of the grand prizes, including tote bags with gift certificates to local restaurants and other goodies, to be awarded at the end of the summer. Groundbreaking Reads prizes are provided by the Friends of Memorial Hall Library, Yella Grille, Orange Leaf, Quiet Pleasures Jewelry, Andolini’s, Sense of Wonder, Whole Foods Market Andover, Sauce, and Metamorphosis Art & Design.
