Local man, girl injured in jet ski explosion

An Andover man was reported to be in fair condition on Monday after suffering a broken pelvis in a jet ski accident on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.

Steve Mitton, 56, of Andover, and an unidentified 8-year-old girl were ejected from the jet ski when it exploded, according to the New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol.

The girl suffered a head laceration.

The explosion happened when Mitton tried to start the engine, according to the Marine Patrol. The two were transported to Lakes General Hospital in Laconia, N.H., then transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Fair condition means the patient is conscious and the prognosis for recovery is favorable.
