Donors sought for Red Cross blood drives
The American Red Cross is holding three upcoming community blood drives in Andover. The blood drives will take place Thursday, Aug. 29, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 360 South Main St.; Saturday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 7 High St., and Thursday, Sept. 26, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Free Christian Church, 31 Elm St.
All eligible and new blood donors are encouraged to give blood. All presenting donors in September will receive a voucher good for two offers from Monro ($19.99 extra mile service package and $60 off a set of four tires). Prizes are nontransferable and not redeemable for cash.

Geriatric Psychiatry Conference on tap
Geriatric Neuropsychiatry 2013, Merrimack Valley Hospital’s third annual geriatric psychiatry conference, will be held Friday, Sept. 13, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the David Hartleb Technology Center at Northern Essex Community College, 100 Elliott St., Haverhill.
Speakers and topics are Dr. Shabbir Abbasi, Parkinson’s Disease: Etiology, Pathology, Clinical Features and Neuropsychiatric Treatment; Dr. Nicole Absar, The Syndrome of the 3 Ms Associated with Frontal Subcortical Cognitive Impairment; Nicole Fagone, MSW, LCSW, program director for New England Geriatrics, Personality Disorders and the Older Adult; Tracey D’Amico, OTR/L, and Margaret Pfeiffer, MSN, RN, CS, from St. Anne’s Hospital, Approach, Environment and Alternative Treatment Modalities: Keys to Successful Management of Behaviors in the Older Adult; and Buck Woo, PhD, Neuropsychology and Retraining of Memory and Functional Cognition.
The conference is open to the public. The $25 cost includes breakfast, coffee/ beverages, full lunch and five continuing education credits for nurses, social workers and physicians.
