---- — Cub Scout Pack 79 recruitment night

Andover Cub Scout Pack 79 is holding a recruitment and information night on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Saint Robert’s Bellarmine Parish, 198 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover.

The pack meets Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Saint Robert’s Bellarmine Parish and is open to boys in grades one through five. Cub Scout activities include weekly den and monthly pack meetings, pack sleepovers, trail hikes, family camping overnights, community service projects and more. In addition, the Cub Scouts march in the town’s Memorial Day Parade and participate in a Pinewood Derby race.

AHS Swim and Dive team fundraiser

The Andover High School Swim and Dive Team’s 2013 fundraiser is under way. The Lady Warriors are selling boxes of frozen cookie dough to support the team.

The boxes contain 40 individually frozen cookies. Flavors include chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, M&M and white chocolate macadamia nut.

Each box costs $16, payable in cash or check made out to AHS Swim and Dive team. The deadline for orders and payments is Thursday, Sept. 12. To place an order, contact Jennifer Allen at Jenniferallen7@comcast.net or 978-979-2257.

Hydrangea picking at West Parish

A free hydrangea picking day at West Parish Garden Cemetery takes place Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The public is invited to pick from the Hydrangea Circle within the cemetery on Reservation Road. Enter through the gates and proceed down the hill. Hydrangea Circle is on the left. Bring your own cutting shears. Donations to support maintenance of the cemetery grounds are appreciated.

Final ‘Stories from the Trails’ hike

The third and final historical hike of this season’s “Stories from the Trails” series takes place Sunday, Sept. 8, starting at 1 p.m.

The hike will begin at the Skug River Reservation in Andover. Jane Cairns from the Andover Historical Society and Alan French of the Andover Trails Committee will share colorful stories tied to the reservation and surrounding area.

The 2 1/2-hour hike will consist of relatively easy walking. Parking is available in the Skug River Reservation lot on Salem Street and around the corner on Wagon Wheel Road. The hike series has been presented by the Andover Trails Committee and the Andover Historical Society.

Girl Scouts fall sign-ups Oct. 1

Andover Girl Scouts will hold their fall sign-ups on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Center for Education, 35 Essex St., Andover. Interested girls are invited to come make new friends, learn outdoor skills, participate in art and science projects and help out their community.
