---- — A year-old pizza place in downtown Andover that ran into some trouble in recent months is enjoying a fresh start with a new owner, new name and new focus.
Iqbal “Iggy” Salewala, who has had his hand in KFC, Taco Bell and Subway franchises over the last 22 years, purchased the former Pizza Connection on Park Street recently and has made it his own.
Salewala said while he has been fortunate with his ownership of franchises over the last two decades, it wasn’t enough. “I’d like to do my own,” he said.
The new Iggy’s Pizza & Subs expands on the eatery’s previous menu with an eclectic array of Indian-inspired pizzas and more.
The dozen Indian spice topping pizzas include Achari Chicken, which features chicken morsels in an “aromatic spices, Indian pickle sauce;” Aloo Tikki, which includes “mildly spiced, minced, deep-fried potatoes;” and chicken tikka masala with oven-roasted chicken in aromatic spices and zesty sauce.
In the coming weeks, Salewala is planning to introduce gluten-free and wheat dough alternatives for all pizzas on his menu.
The former Pizza Connection is still subject to the continuation of a Board of Health hearing initiated this summer as a result of health concerns at the restaurant. Health Director Tom Carbone said he’ll recommend to the Board of Health at its meeting next week that the hearing be closed to “wipe the slate clean” for the restaurant’s new owner.
