The Andover Business Community Association will hold its 2013 annual meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m. at The Andover Inn at 4 Chapel Ave. on the Phillips Academy campus.

The agenda includes the annual election of officers. Voting is open to ABCA members only. The group will also present a review of 2013 activities and a look ahead at plans for 2014.

Companies join Anton’s `Coats for Kids’ drive

Weston Solutions, Inc and FootBridge Staffing of Andover have become corporate collection partners for Anton’s Cleaners’ 19th annual “Coats for Kids” winter coat drive.

Participating companies and organizations collect good-quality, warm-winter coats, which are then cleaned by Anton’s and distributed free of charge to those in need. The drive, which has collected more than 856,000 coats since it began, runs through Jan. 11.

Pure Barre now toning in North Andover

Pure Barre, a new ballet barre studio, has opened at 107 Turnpike St. in North Andover. Manager Carrie Frank leads the newest studio in the Boston area.

Pure Barre focuses on the areas of the body women struggle with the most and is aimed at clients looking to transform their body and tone their abs, arms, seat and thighs. Since it began franchising in 2009, more than 150 Pure Barre studios have opened nationwide.

Classes are offered seven days a week.

Local firm sends team to Rodman Ride

ALKU, a specialized consulting firm based in Andover, has partnered with the Mass Mentoring organization for this year’s Rodman Ride.

Over the past two years, ALKU — formerly The Start Group — has raised $50,000 for Mass Mentoring Partnership, the umbrella organization for youth mentoring programs in Massachusetts.

The Rodman Ride is a 25-, 50- or 100-mile bike ride that takes place every September in Foxboro. This year, ALKU’s riding team consisted of 25 employees who participated in the noncompetitive ride.

The firm also pledged to match 10 percent of all donations collected and The Rodman Ride pledged to match 10% on top of that, meaning Mass Mentoring received 121% of all contributions raised by the ALKU team.

Wright-Pierce honored by water works group

Wright-Pierce, a New England-based civil and environmental engineering firm with an office on Shattuck Road in Andover, received the 2013 Sponsor of the Year Award from the New England Water Works Association, a nonprofit, professional organization.

The award recognizes Wright-Pierce’s “significant, long-term support of the association through the volunteer services of employees, participation in committees and programs, financial support of various activities, and major contributions to fundraisers.”

Wright-Pierce has been a service provider member of New England Water Works Association since 1977, and 15 employees are individual members, holding leadership positions and serving on key committees. Over the years, employees have helped organize member events; served as speakers and moderators at monthly meetings, conferences and professional development and training programs; and mentored young professionals. The company has also provided funding to support the association.
