The weekly police log in the Andover Townsman is one of its most well-read features. On any given week, it can offer a nix of out-of-the-ordinary entries, from reports of serious crime to recordings of strange, if not always illegal, behavior in town.

Here are some of the more unusual entries from 2007:

Saturday, Jan. 6 | At 8:56 a.m., a Beech Circle resident reported his car was covered in shaving cream.

At 2:20 p.m., a person reported being harassed on North Main Street by someone coming after them with a hammer.

Friday, Jan. 12 | At 10:17 p.m., a Papa Gino's employee reported his motor vehicle had been vandalized with eggs, pizza sauce and lipstick.

Friday, Feb. 9 | At 8:26 a.m., an animal control officer responding to the Phillips Academy bird sanctuary for a dog complaint reported issuing eight to 10 leash law violations.

Friday, April 27 | At 5:38 p.m., a gambling incident was reported behind Brueggers Bagel's and eight youths were told to leave by an officer.

Tuesday, May 8 | At 4:53 p.m., a Cheyenne Circle resident reported there was fecal matter left in her mailbox AGAIN and that the mailman still delivered the mail, which was contaminated. (Emphasis ours.)

Thursday, May 10 | At 7:21 p.m., a disturbed male was reportedly sitting on the steps of Memorial Hall Library throwing rocks at the patrons of the restaurant Glory, who were sitting outdoors. No one was injured.

Friday, May 11 | At 2:45 p.m., vandalism to a motor vehicle was reported on River Road after a juvenile from a passing school bus allegedly threw a battery at a car.

Tuesday, May 29 | At 3:27 p.m., a Cross Street woman reported larceny after 13 plants were dug up and taken from her yard over the weekend.

Monday, June 11 | At 5:28 p.m., an employee of the Rugged Bear reported a woman and her daughter had been shoplifting. They left the store in a maroon Mercedes.

Tuesday, July 3 | At 10:49 p.m., a noise complaint was received on Meadow View Lane because a resident was blaring a horror movie inadvertently from outside deck speakers.

Tuesday, July 17 | At 9:01 p.m., two youths involved in a water-balloon incident were transported back to the station and picked up by their parents.

Saturday, Aug. 18 | At 6:54 p.m., vandalism was reported on Highland Road after a recently-married resident saw that the tent set up in their backyard for the wedding had been burned overnight, along with a table and chairs.

Friday, Sept. 21 | At 9:10 a.m., a woman on Harold Parker Road reported a man was swimming naked in a pond at Harold Parker State Forest.

Monday, Sept. 24 | At 9:03 p.m., a man reported finding a tracking device attached to the bottom of his vehicle on Hidden Road.

Thursday, Oct. 18 | At 1:12 p.m., a noise complaint was made regarding someone on River Road playing loudly the radio-cast of a Red Sox game.

Friday, Nov. 9 | At 12:57 p.m., a male walking with a gas can was on Elm Street was reportedly asking people for money.

Sunday, Nov. 18 | At 1:10 p.m., a Haverhill Street resident reported there was a tent in the woods by the vacant lot next to his house. An officer reported that a dirty sleeping bag, beverage that expired two months ago and a Burger King application were in the tent.

Saturday, Dec. 8 | At 10:25 p.m., suspicious activity was reported on Chestnut Street when between four and five teenagers wearing hoods were ringing doorbells and running away. An officer reported it was a group of carolers from Phillips Academy.
