Louise "Liz" Zeller Curley, a former resident of North Andover and Andover and devoted, caring wife of Joseph "Jay" D. Curley, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2012 surrounded by her loving family, after courageously battling pancreatic cancer for ten months.
Born on December 9, 1936, in Buffalo, NY, Liz was the daughter of late G. Frederick Zeller and Elisabeth Hatch Zeller, sister to G. Frederick Zeller, Jr. and Elisabeth Z. Hughes who pre-deceased her. A graduate of Elmwood-Franklin School, the Buffalo Seminary and Colby-Sawyer College,
Liz met her life-long love Jay in the Back Bay of Boston, marrying in a snowstorm in Buffalo on February 4, 1961. From there, they lived in Wellesley for many years. Liz enjoyed volunteer work with the Junior Service League of Wellesley, fitting in many projects while raising her four children. When the family moved to the Andovers, she worked in a physicians' office in Winchester for fourteen years before retiring.
Liz dedicated much of her free time to Christ Episcopal Church of Andover, its Pastoral Care Committee, the knitting ministry and the church's welcoming committee. One of Liz's unique projects was giving a "Person of the Year" award to an individual in the community who day in and day out was helpful in serving others since 1982.
In their 51 year marriage, Liz and Jay raised their children, Grace E. Curley of North Reading, MA, Jeffrey F. Curley and his wife Siswati of Singapore, Suzanne E. Curley of Boston, and Lindsey Curley Melville and her husband Charles of Andover. Liz's great delight in recent years was spending time enjoying her six grandchildren: Maeve, Rowan, Alexander, Reza, Christopher and Daniel. Her legacy of love, support and generosity will be carried on in the hearts of her devoted children.
