Andover — Stanley F. Short 92, of Andover and formerly of North Reading, passed away Monday, August 27 at his home in Andover.
Stanley was born in London, England at St. Thomas Hospital, within the sound of Bow Bells, which made him a true “Cockney” Londoner. He was born to the late Jane and Edward Short. Stanley served with the Royal Air Force during World War II and in 1943 married Gloria Gill. Together with their children they immigrated to America in 1955. In 1957, Stanley started his own machine tool business, which he ran until he retired.
Stanley was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, and father-in-law, and especially delighted in spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to travel the world and enjoyed ballroom dancing with the Wilmington Dance Club. Stanley was also a member and former director of the English Speaking Union, a member of the French Library in Boston, North Reading Minutemen, and Quannapowitt Players. Stanley was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Stanley is survived by his son, Martin Short and his wife Pauline of Atkinson, NH; his daughter, Stephanie McDonald and her husband Michael of North Reading; his grandchildren, Trevor, Keith, and Devin McDonald, Tyler Short, Natasha (Short) Little and Amanda (Short) Guthrie; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Chloe, Kyleigh, Nicholas and Mitchell McDonald, Jill Leary, Gretchen and Stanley Little, Amelia Short; his niece, Beverley Dean and husband James; and great-nieces, Nicola Dean and Johanna Elias.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading on Thursday, September 6 from 3 to 7 PM. There will be no funeral service.
