Dr. Anthony Harold James, 72


Ipswich — Dr. Anthony Harold James, 72, of Cumming, Ga., formerly of Andover, Mass., passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at his home in Ipswich, Mass., on Thursday, February 27, 2014.

Tony was born to the late Joseph and Edna James, on August 5, 1941, in Tipton, England. He received Bachelor of Scince degrees in chemistry and fuel technology, and a doctorate degree in fuel technology from the University of Sheffield, England. He worked 34 years at Cabot Corporation throughout his highly successful, multi-national career. After retirement, he served on the Andover School Committee and co-founded the Andover Coalition for Education. In addition, he served on several boards including The Service Club of Andover. He received a Citizens Who Care Award from the Andover Rotary Club and the Make a Difference Award from the Service Club of Andover.

Tony’s selflessness, infectious smile and incredibly positive attitude were an inspiration to all those around him. His approach to life, and to death, was with unparalleled grace, courage, class and wisdom. Personally and professionally, his spirit, generosity, ethical compass, and his willingness help anybody made him a phenomenal mentor and person.

Tony was married in 1978, and his legacy lives on through his loving wife, Connie Karras James; his sons, Chris and wife, Emily, of Somerville, Mass., and Greg of Rutland, Vt.; and his brother, Andrew and wife, Maxine, of Stourbridge, England. He is predeceased by his beautiful daughters, Helen and Sally.
