Andover — Dibyendu B. Basu, M.D., 86, of Andover, MA and Kennebunk, Maine, passed away peacefully at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
He was the beloved husband of 48 years of SueAnne (Loftus); devoted father of three daughters and sons-in-law, Krisna Basu and Joshua Krell of Marblehead, MA, Andra Basu and John Sullivan of Allentown, PA and Linnea Basu and Prashanth Saka of Brookline, MA; and special “Papa” to Sarah and Joseph Krell and Cynthia and Niva Sullivan.
He was the son of the late Niva Nani (Ghose) and Bhupendra Nath Basu of India. He is survived by his brother, Subhrendu B. Basu of Kolkata, India and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Dr. Basu was born in Patna, Bihar, India and graduated from R. G. Kar Medical College in India. Following his Internal Medicine and Neurology residencies in Canada and the United States, he moved to the Merrimack Valley and began his private practice in Neurology from 1972 to 2000. He continued to see patients part-time until his final retirement in 2013.
Along with his lifelong love of medicine, he was devoted to his family and loved spending time with them, traveling and enjoying time in Maine where he loved to garden, and grow roses.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Burke Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Sunday, February 9, 2014, from 3 to 7 p.m.
At the request of the family, funeral services will be private.
