LAWRENCE — Emily R. (Catalano) Ponti, 101, passed away Monday, December 26, 2011 at the Berkeley Nursing Center in Lawrence. She was born January 22, 1910 and was just three weeks away from turning 102-years-old.
Mrs Ponti was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Agatha (Siatta) Catalano. Raised and educated in Lawrence, she attended Holy Rosary Grammar School and St. Mary's High School. She worked for over 30 years as a seamstress at the Everett Mills and retired in 1975.
Mrs. Ponti was also a homemaker who loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a parishioner of Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence and was a former member of St. Rita's Sodality. She also enjoyed volunteering for many years at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Mrs. Ponti was the wife of the late Thomas A. Ponti who passed away in 1962. She is survived by her son, Joseph T. Ponti and his wife Louise of Andover; grandchildren, Thomas Ponti and his partner Steve Barbour of Boston, Joseph Ponti, Jr. of Andover, Mary Ann Ponti of Boston and Amy Ponti and her partner Tracy Burke of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and one great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Marie Ponti. There are also several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following visiting hours at 11:00 AM in Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St., Lawrence. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
