Robert E. Sherman of Brooksby Village in Peabody, a longtime resident of Andover, died peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2012.
He was born in Menominee, Michigan on March 13, 1922 the son of Samuel Merritt Sherman and the former Inez Mortensen.
A graduate of Michigan Technological University, he served with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Bob spent his whole career as an electrical engineer at Bell Laboratories in NY, NJ and North Andover.
Mr. Sherman was an active member of Christ Church in Andover as well as The Andover Thrift Shop and Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed summers at the family home on Lake Winnipesaukee.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Ethel M. Sherman.
He is survived by his children Scott. M. Sherman and his wife Phyllis Schmiedeberg of Rye, NY, Lois R. Mann of Natick and Jean M. Sabean and her husband William Sabean of Danvers; his grandchildren Heather Shanahan and her husband Joe Shanahan of Natick, Heidi Chandler and her husband David Chandler of Sterling, Alison Sabean, Amy Sabean and Matthew Sherman. Also his great-grandchildren Jackson Chandler, Kaitlyn Shanahan, Nathan Chandler and Abigail Shanahan.
ARRANGEMENTS: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity – Northshore, 215 Maple Street, Lynn, MA 01904. A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Sunday, March 18 at Christ Church, 25 Central Street in Andover. Arrangements are under the care of the Conte Funeral Home of Andover.
