Edgar Johnson, 81

Georgetown, MA — Edgar Norton Johnson, 81, of Georgetown, Mass., passed away peacefully at his home with his beloved wife and family by his side on June 17, 2013. Ted wrote in a journal years ago, "Although I am a religious man, I have found my heaven here on earth with my wife and family." All of his family and friends felt the same way about life with Ted. He first fell in love with his wife, Faith when he saw her dancing in a class at Tufts University, and for the next 60 years cherished his marriage to the most beautiful woman he ever saw.

He was a wonderful father and mentor to Chris and his wife, Mary, Eric and his wife, Regina, Martha, and Beth and her husband, Scott. His capacity for love and fatherly advice extended to Brian Toomey and his wife, Susan. Ted and Faith also hosted a number of foreign exchange students, including Ghana Otieno. Known as Papa or Pop to his grandchildren, Abigail, Benjamin, Dillon, Griffin, Holden, Joel, Russell, and Sean, Ted always embraced each with his love and brought them wonderful adventures. Ted also leaves his beloved brother, Will and many nieces and nephews.

After earning his bachelors in science from Tufts, Ted began a lifelong passion and career in opening up the world of science and chemistry to children. He earned his diploma in education from UMass along the way, and spent the last segment of his career at Andover High School. He was always active in his church at West Parish in Andover, and in his communities. He co-founded the Samaritans of Merrimack Valley and spent many years manning the phone system along with providing administrative leadership. And after he retired from teaching, Ted traveled to South Africa to help educate teachers on the instruction of science.

Ted will be sorely missed, but the family will cherish memories of camping adventures, building summer cabins in Nova Scotia and Maine, and his love for games and friendly competition.

ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 21, at West Parish Church in Andover, Mass., at 11 a.m.
