Walter Taft, 79


Jacksonville, FL — Walter L. Taft, 79, died of pneumonia June 24, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., following successful abdominal surgery.

Walter graduated from Framingham High School, Framingham, Mass., in 1952 and from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine, in 1956. He had retired in 1989 after working for Western Electric/AT&T for 33 years, developing high speed telephone switch circuits and microwave applications to be used countrywide. Walter also worked for several years on the SAGE and ABM defense missile systems located around the country. He also was heavily involved in negotiating defense government projects.

Walter was the son of Leonard and Elizabeth (Gibbs) Taft of Framingham, Mass. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Henrietta (Swain) Taft; four beloved children, Philip and his wife, Aimee, of Hampstead, N.H., Janice Silva and husband, Jeffery, of Derry, N.H., Martha Mazza and husband, Clarke, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Cheryl Greany and husband, Michael, of Amherst, N.H.; and eight beloved grandchildren. Walter is also survived by his sister, Jeanne Otenti and husband, Michael, of Framingham, Mass.; and brother, Donald Taft of Brookfield, Mass.; along with several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., South Paris on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the church. Arrangements are under the care of Oxford Hills Funeral Services, 1037 Main St., Oxford.
