Melrose, formerly of Andover — Barbara L. (Emmons) Hanscom, 77, formerly of Andover, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was born in Lawrence and was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Dorothy (Hawes) Emmons.
Mrs. Hanscom was raised and educated in Andover and lived in Andover for the greater part of her life. She was a graduate of Abbot Academy in Andover and also Keene State where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree.
She was a school teacher and taught in Andover and Athol. She also was an elementary school teacher at St. Patrick’s Church in South Lawrence for 12 years. She loved animals, especially her cat, Thomas.
Mrs. Hanscom was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ralph G. Hanscom, and her brother, Thomas A. Emmons.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah L. Jarvis and her husband, Robert Nolan, of Salem, N.H., and her grandchildren, William F. and Rosalynde E. Jarvis. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, May 2, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Her funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013, at Christ Church, 25 Central St., Andover. Interment will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, North Andover.
