I just wanted to say a big thank-you to all those who put together Andover Department of Community Services’ Summer Theatre Ensemble production of “Peter Pan” earlier this month at the Collins Center. I took my three girls to see it and was pleasantly surprised that it was incredibly fun, high-quality entertainment. I really feel sorry for anyone who missed it.
I have never been a huge fan of the story line in the past nor do I think that I had a good understanding of it, and my kids have been filled with all sorts of expectations from cartoon versions like “Jake and the Neverland Pirates.” The whole experience gave us all a new appreciation for the original play, the magic that live theatrical entertainment can be and the extraordinary effort it is to put together such a production. The excellent singing, dancing, percussion number, audience participation and silly humor (for example, croc on obvious skateboard) not to mention the flying and live pit orchestra created a magical event that left my youngest asking every time the lights went down after an act, “Is there still more?”
After the final curtain, we headed home with a handful of pixie dust wishing only that we had had an opportunity to meet the cast in person and to thank them for sharing their summer energy to perform with us.
Congratulations on an extraordinary production. It made our summer.
