The Andover Townsman
---- — Editor, Townsman:
First, I would like to thank and commend Mary Lyman for 13 years of devoted service as Andover selectwoman. I now heartily endorse another Mary, a successful businesswoman of great personal integrity who possesses an independence of mind needed in these times of great financial challenge.
Mary O’Donoghue’s commitment to Andover is reflected both in her years of service to the town and in her professional life.
Mary has served on Andover’s Finance Committee for 12 years, two of which she was vice chairwoman. She has deeply honed her knowledge of Andover’s fiscal issues, and will be able to effectively address those issues. She also served on the Bancroft School Task Force and was the Finance Committee liaison to the School Building Committee. She understands how challenging the financial issues are, both school-side as well as town-side.
The right candidate, however, will not only understand financial issues, but will also be sensitive to Andover’s character as a whole. Mary has been a Realtor for more than 20 years, continually listening to why people are happy to live in Andover, and also to the reasons why they choose to leave. It would be difficult to find a candidate more acutely attuned to what defines our community.
It will take wisdom, experience and strength of character to keep Andover on a straight path moving forward. At this juncture, we need someone with Mary’s independence of mind, someone prepared to ask the right questions, someone who is not afraid to take a politically difficult stance when she considers it in the best interests of the town.
I hope you will join me in voting for Mary O’Donoghue on Tuesday, March 25, at Andover High School.
