Vispoli should step down as selectman for Senate campaign

The Andover Townsman

---- — Editor, Townsman:

Alex Vispoli must immediately renounce his position on the Andover Board of Selectmen while fundraising and campaigning for state Senate. Vispoli has the appearance of being in conflict of interest while maintaining the selectman’s seat and driving for the state Senate. Vispoli could be making campaign promises to the good people of Lawrence and Dracut that is adverse to his position on the Andover Board of Selectmen.

Several people from the town of Andover have resigned their positions in government while running for office. Barbara L’Italien resigned her employment position with the commonwealth to campaign for the office of state representative. Mary O’Donoghue resigned her appointed position on the Andover Finance Committee to run for selectwoman. Those two law-abiding citizens were intelligent enough to see the potential conflict of interest while maintaining another position in government and campaigning for local or state office.

Vispoli must resign the selectmen’s seat. A public official, elected or appointed, cannot have two masters.
