The Andover Townsman
---- — Editor, Townsman:
Once again, Andover is fortunate in having a quality candidate seeking office.
Selectman candidate Mary O’Donoghue is highly qualified in many respects. As a Finance Committee member over the past several years, she had gained a close knowledge of the operations of town government, and has developed a keen knack for asking pertinent questions of town officials. She will come to the Board of Selectmen well prepared to take up her duties.
In addition, she is a hard worker, putting in hours of work each year in preparation for budget discussions and town meetings. When she speaks, it is from a vantage point of knowledge, because she has made it her business to become informed on the issues.
This year in particular, her viewpoint is especially needed on the Board of Selectmen, since she has spoken out on many occasions about perhaps the most important issue facing the town today — the rapidly rising property tax rate faced by Andover homeowners.
Only a clear and sensible voice on the board will help us to bring under control our spending, which has reached alarming rates. Mary O’Donoghue is that kind of voice, and I urge voters to support her in the town elections on March 25.
Only by going to the polls (and to Town Meeting) can we have an influence on the issues of concern to our town.
