A 'remarkable experience' serving the schools

The Andover Townsman

---- — Editor, Townsman:

I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the Andover community for allowing me the opportunity to serve on the School Committee during the past six years. Although often challenging, this has been a remarkable and rewarding experience. I have learned a great deal about public education, both in terms of challenges and opportunities. In Andover, we are blessed with dedicated families, teachers and administrators who are strongly committed to the achievement of all students. What can be said about our children is that they are simply amazing. We also have a community that from a financial perspective has strongly supported the education and achievement of our students.

When I was first elected in 2008, I had committed myself, with my family’s support, to serving two terms if the townspeople were willing to re-elect me. During my re-election in 2011, I often spoke openly that if re-elected, I would not look to run for a third term. So, I am writing to inform the community that I am not seeking a third term on the School Committee.

During this past spring when I knew that I was entering my last year, I did re-think that position. However, I soon came to the decision that given changing family priorities, the growth of my business and the belief that turnover on local committees is a healthy event, I did reaffirm my decision not to run again.

It is my intent to engage in other volunteer activities. In fact, I have committed to help coach my son’s soccer team this spring. Additionally, I fully intend to remain a “friend” of the School Committee and to be available to support its mission in any way that I can. I look forward to volunteering in other capacities as well.

I am available to speak with anyone about serving on the School Committee or running a campaign for local office. Please feel free to contact me.

I greatly appreciate your support and encouragement during these past six years. I hope that I have contributed positively to the educational experience and achievement of our children.
