The Andover Townsman
---- — Editor, Townsman:
On April 26, a wonderful tribute was given to Warren “Buster” Deyermond. A sports field was dedicated in his memory. As we have just marked Memorial Day, I would like to thank those who saw this become a reality.
Six Deyermond brothers served in World War II and returned to Andover in good health. Warren’s brothers served in Vietnam and the Iraq War. His sister served in the Navy.
I thank Bill Dalton for the gracious tribute to Buster and to the other officials who also spoke along with our own John Deyermond. This was a fitting tribute to Buster and my only regret is that his father wasn’t able to be here.
In 2001, we were told “lest we forget” applies to all veterans who served and are now serving. The Deyermonds and other family members are still dedicated to serving their country and to public service. This monument will always be a reminder to the generations of Deyermonds as they explain to their children who Buster Deyermond was and why he left his mark on the town of Andover. Thank you.
