“May Flower” is a metaphor to honor the Chinese community in Andover, where the Chinese elders are charming, like May flowers.
Active, industrious, talented and modest, they have displayed their fine qualities to help enrich community life by singing, dancing, learning English, teaching English, spreading Chinese culture, doing healthy exercises, playing tai chi and Mah jong, etc.
So, the recent “Happy, Healthy Mothers Day” event at Stowe Court was highlighted by over 20 love-themed songs, solo dances, self-created poems, affectionate speeches and a presentation bouquet of fresh flowers — plus a lovely handmade rose to the oldest mother, who is approaching 90 — was well received. The excited gathering was held in the community room in Stowe Court and over 50 people had a joyful, impressive experience.
Boundless love, selfless spirit, great thanks and gratitude are the key words to praise all mothers, Chinese or American, who can “uphold half of the sky” (a Chinese saying).
