On behalf of the Andover Cultural Council, we would like to thank state Sen. Barry Finegold for his words of support (”State supports Andover culture, arts programs,”Townsman, Oct. 4). We have a wealth of talented and deserving individuals and organizations in Andover, and the money we receive through the Massachusetts Cultural Council enables us to support a variety of programs that benefit our community. Last year, for example, we awarded 15 grants totaling $4,000 for programs that included concerts, films, poetry reading, children’s education, and events for our senior citizens like the John Root “Music From the Gaslight Era” performance recently reported on in the Townsman.
We are eagerly gearing up for the forthcoming 2013 grant cycle, and would like to remind readers that the Oct. 15 application deadline is rapidly approaching. While the funds available may be limited, we are committed to serving as broad a segment of the community as possible.
To that end, this year we are particularly seeking strong proposals that reflect the growing diversity of Andover; collaborations between community organizations; and proposals from groups or individuals that may not have previously applied. We encourage prospective applicants to contact us with any last minute questions at ACC01810@gmail.com. Complete guidelines and application forms are available online at mass-culture.org.
We look forward to reading some wonderful and innovative proposals. The decisions are frequently difficult to make, and we wish that we could support every deserving request we receive. We promise, however, that we’ll continue to work our hardest to foster the very best of the arts here in town.
