My family and I have been small business owners in North Andover for 30 years and like many others in the area, lost phone, credit card and Internet services due to the fire set in Lawrence. Unlike others, our services were not fully restored until Friday, Sept. 12, twelve days after the fire.
We reported we were without service to Verizon on Monday, Aug. 27 and upon learning the extent of the problem understood it could be days without service. We made a conscious decision to give Verizon time to restore service and did not contact them again until Wednesday, Aug. 29. For the next week we called daily to get an update only to hear that they were working on it. On Wednesday, Sept. 5 we were told that we were scheduled to be fully restored by 10 p.m. that night.
When we still didn't have service Thursday, we contacted Verizon and were told that our "ticket" had been closed. One of our seven lines had been restored and a mistake had been made when the problem was originally reported so we'd need to wait an additional four days. There was no way to get it done earlier.
At that point, having exhausted all of my other options, I contacted State Sen. Barry Finegold's office to see if he could help. He and his staff were eager to help solve our problem. Within minutes I had a call from a Verizon supervisor and a half an hour later four Verizon trucks were at my business. All service was restored within 24 hours.
Without Finegold's intervention, our business would not have had our service restored for days. Finegold cares about small businesses in the Merrimack Valley and understands their needs. I urge people to vote for Senator Finegold in November. He saved us from losing clients and got our service back when we were told it couldn't be done.
He was there for us when we needed him and he will always be there for you.
