The Andover Townsman
---- — Editor, Townsman:
I urge all readers to take advantage of the MBTA Community Recycling Event this Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brickstone Square parking lot off York Street in Andover, as described last week in the Townsman.
It is a phenomenal, one-stop opportunity to quickly and easily recycle for free (fees only for TVs and computer monitors) many larger household items and materials that you can’t typically recycle or simply responsibly get rid of easily or cost-effectively.
Categories include electronics, yard and power equipment, major appliances, small appliances, metal items, plastic toys/rigid plastics, electrical items and textiles. Specific items collected include many of those excluded from either curbside service or private Dumpsters such as air conditioners, humidifiers/dehumidifiers, microwaves, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, lawn mowers, snowblowers, heaters, treadmills and exercise bikes.
More importantly for those items collected at the event that are allowed in the curbside trash, every pound of material diverted for recycling saves the town the approximately $70/ton disposal tipping fee that is borne by each and every Andover taxpayer. Further participation in the event helps to benefit the environment by preserving material resources.
For more details on the event and what is collected, please review the flyer in the “News, Events, & Notices” section at the town homepage or at http://library.constantcontact.com/download/get/file/1103736719181-8/MBTAComRecEvntAndoverFlyer.pdf.
