While I agree with Mr. Rogers (“Canon no longer belongs in town’s Park,” Sept. 25) about war being a terrible thing, I could not disagree more in regards to the cannon. To me, that cannon represents generations of Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice in order to preserve my freedoms and liberty.
That cannon rightfully belongs in a prominent place to remind us every day of those sacrifices. Even more important, as far as I am concerned, is the lack of understanding in regards to war memorials and history. I have heard far too many times that until man learns from history, he is condemned to repeat it. As I see it, today’s Americans tend to ignore history and as a nation we seem to have a track record of repeating things, yet expecting different results. Isn’t that the definition of insanity?
While I disagree with your opinion, I will defend to my death your right to express it!
