My mother had hired help during her last year of life, paying both Social Security and unemployment taxes. After my mother died, the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance would not stop sending “Assessed Cumulative Statements of Amounts Past Due” for their projections of what my mother would have owed if she was still living, still paying hired help.
Many phone calls, registered letters, un-registered letters later, I had no response, except for more bills.
I called state Sen. Barry Finegold’s office to help get this issue resolved. I spoke with a very positive and helpful assistant, and received a call the next day saying my mother’s case was closed.
I greatly appreciate that Senator Finegold has set up an office that is receptive and helpful. Thank you, Seantor Finegold for this, and for helping to make this problem go away.
