Town Manager Buzz Stapczynski wants to lead Andover another five years.

While discussing the town manager reappointment process on Monday, Nov. 2, selectmen cut to the chase and asked Stapczynski, Andover's manager since 1990, whether he'd like to stay.

"Yes, I am looking for another five years," said Stapczynski. "I enjoy working with the board, and there's a lot ahead of us."

Stapczynski's contract expires June 4, and selectmen are required to let Stapczynski know if he's reappointed by March 4.

Selectmen approved a plan Monday to collect feedback from residents and make a decision by Feb. 4. In January, Stapczynski will present selectmen with his vision and plan for the next five years, as well as highlights and achievements of his last five years. He did the same thing the last time he was reappointed.

Selectman Alex Vispoli said emphasis will be placed on Stapczynski's plans to control future budgets and costs. A feedback session for public comments will be held at the Jan. 4 selectmen's meeting.

Andover's town charter dictates town managers serve in five-year terms. If reappointed, Stapczynski would serve his fifth term in Andover, the longest tenure of any Andover manager.

For the 2008 calendar year, Stapczynski made $128,780 in salary. Travel allowances and other pay bumped his total earnings to $130,908 for 2008.

Stapczynski, 61, and his wife, Sandy, have two sons who are now in college. The town charter requires Andover's town manager to live in town.

Prior to coming to Andover in June 1990, Stapczynski served in the roles of town manager and assistant town manager in Wilmington.
