Bay State 10-year-olds sweep tourney

The 10-year-old Bay State team, which is also Andover Little League’s National League 10-Year-Old Districts All-Star team, went 8-0 in Bay State Tournament play to capture the championship trophy in its age bracket earlier this month.

With 44 towns from across the state participating in the tournament, the local ballplayers faced stiff competition before defeating Billerica 13-2 in the title game during Trophy Weekend.

The win capped off a 14-4-1 overall record, with the team playing 19 games in five weeks. Scott Nichols of Andover Little League called the first-place finish a “huge accomplishment.”

The team includes Jackson Burns, Jack Cloutier, Michael Garofalo, Evan Giggey, Ryan Grecco, Stephen Ingram, Timmy Kobelski, James Mahoney, Billy Moulton, Aidan Ritter, Nolan Schirmer, Thomas Tavener and Matthew Thierault. Mike Garofalo is team manager, with coaches Pat Grecco, Jim Moulton and Scott Schirmer.
