Volleyball tops rivals to stay perfect

Liz Wait led the way with 17 kills and seven blocks as Andover outlasted archrival Central Catholic 25-22, 21-25, 25-9, 23-25, 15-9 on Friday to remain undefeated on the season. Azita Bakhtyari added 15 service points and seven kills while Sarah Weimer had 12 digs and Lauren Murtagh added 34 assists for the winners.

Marcela Bolanos tallied 10 service points and five aces as Andover cruised past Billerica 25-12, 25-19, 25-10 last Wednesday. Rachel Schnakenberg added seven blocks while Lauren Murtagh chipped in with 15 assists for the winners.

Huynh comes up clutch

An Huynh scored off a corner kick with less than 10 minutes remaining to break a tie and give Andover a 2-1 win over Danvers in rainy conditions on Sunday. Connor Merinder made 22 saves while Drew Johnson scored the other goal and Demetri Kostakis had an assist for the winners.

An Huynh took a pass from Sam Vecchi and scored for Andover, which played Central Catholic to a 1-1 tie last Thursday. Connor Merinder made 11 saves for the Golden Warriors.

Ray Forster scored a goal, but Andover lost to Lowell 5-1 last Tuesday. Declan Collins added an assist for the Golden Warriors.


Korsberg stars

Alexa Korsberg won the 100 butterfly (1:01.13) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay as Andover bested Chelmsford 92-88 on Friday. Maeve Awiszus won the 100 backstroke, Ashlee Korsberg took the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Maggie D’Innocenzo won the 200 IM and 100 freestyle and they teamed with Alexa Kosberg on the 400 freestyle relay.

Alois sisters scoring

Jackie Alois scored a goal and sister Veronica Alois added an assist as Andover beat Lowell 2-0 last Tuesday. Lily Puccia added the other score for the Golden Warriors, and Olivia Biles had the shutout in net.

Veronica Alois scored to give Andover the lead, and the Golden Warriors ended up playing archrival Central Catholic to a 1-1 tie last Thursday. Olivia Biles made seven saves for the Golden Warriors.

Field hockey

Keefe scores winner

Meagan Keefe’s second-half goal was enough to give Andover a 1-0 win over Belmont last Thursday. Jaclyn Torres added the assist and Nicole Schena made a pair of saves for the shutout.

Briana Smith scored a pair of goals as Andover played North Andover to a 2-2 tie last Wednesday. Jaclyn Torres added an assist for the Golden Warriors.

Boys Cross country

Galat paces Warriors

Max Galat led the way in 16th overall in 17:06 as Andover placed eighth at the MVC League Meet on Saturday. Peter McGinn was next in for the Golden Warriors in 39th in 17:50.

Girls cross country

Rothman, Aruri stand out

Leila Aruri paced Andover in 10th overall in 19:48 and Sarah Rothman was right behind in 11th in 20:00 over 3.1 miles as the Golden Warriors placed third at the MVC Meet on Saturday. Next best for the Warriors was Meghan McPhee in 15th Cate Donovan in 25th.
