Wrestling breaks through with victory

Mark Campbell delivered a breakout performance with his first hat trick of the season to give Andover its second straight lopsided victory over Peabody, 6-1, on Sunday. Matt Quercia scored two goals and added two assists, Will Sauerbrunn scored one goal and Sean Enright had three assists for the winners.

Steven Schuhwerk and Matthew Quercia each scored one goal and recorded two assists to lead Andover to a 6-1 drubbing of Bishop Fenwick last Monday, Feb. 3. Will Sauerbrunn, Mark Campbell, Brian Sargeant and Jack Wilkie each scored a goal and Nick Scarpa made 12 saves for the victory.

Warriors win MVCs

Courtney Carver won the floor exercise (9.65), tied for first in the vault (9.5) and was third in the all-around to lead Andover to the MVC Division 1 title with 142.85 points, edging Central Catholic (141.4) and Westford (140.96) last Tuesday, Feb. 4. Rachel Cadet took second in the beam for the winners.

Ganley takes two

Julia Ganley continued to dominate by taking her second straight first overall finish in 21.79 as Andover beat Austin Prep (107-28) but lost to North Andover 78-57 last Friday. Jackie Drew was next in for the Golden Warriors in eighth and Olivia Lawlor was 11th.

Julia Ganley was first in 21.89 to lead Andover to a 93-42 victory over Masconomet last Monday, Feb. 3. Jackie Drew placed 11th, Sylvia Leung was 12th and Olivia Lawler was 14th for the winners.

Warriors top rivals

Behind 15 points for John Pisacreta and a game-high 23 points for David Giribaldi, Andover beat North Andover 59-45 last Friday. E.J. Perry IV added eight points.

“I can honestly say by this one, Game 16, that I like my basketball team,” coach David Fazio said. “There was no pretending. They’ve bought it. That was some real defense out there. We went out and defended hard, and that was the difference this time around.”
