Making her own way

From a basketball family, Alois becomes a star in hockey

Once high school arrived last year, Alois began making her mark on the Golden Warriors.

In just her third varsity game, the then-freshman scored four goals in a win over Central Catholic. She continued to roll, finishing the season with 13 goals.

“You can see right away that she is fast,” Keady said. “But she is also gritty and wants to win whether it is practice or a game. She wants the puck on her stick and she won’t back down. She loves the challenge.”

She has been up to the challenge this season.

Alois began the season in style, scoring the game-winner with five seconds left in the opener against Billerica. She followed that with a four-goal game against Boston Latin.

Since then, she has scored at least one goal in 13 of the Golden Warriors’ last 15 games, including notching five multi-goal games and netting two hat tricks.

She now enters the week with 30 goals, the fifth most for a season in program history. Only legend Maria Nasta (three times) and Sarah Oteri (once) have scored more since Andover girls hockey became a varsity sport in 2001.

“I think the key is that I am always working on my slap shot and wrist shot,” she said. “If we have extra time in practice, I am shooting or I am in the backyard shooting. (A goal) is such an amazing feeling. You never want it to end because you never know when it will happen again.”

But hockey isn’t Alois’ only sport. She is also a star for the soccer team (17 goals in 2013) and plays lacrosse.

“A lot of hockey players skate all year and that ends up being too much,” Keady said. “She plays three sports and is dedicated to all of them. She will reap the rewards of being diverse in the end. And she is very good at all of them.”
