Little League Challenge Division registering

The Andover Townsman

---- — Andover Little League’s Challenger Division program is gearing up for a new season.

The free program is for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 18 who have physical and/or emotional disabilities. Players can be from Andover and the surrounding communities, including Methuen, Haverhill, Dracut, Tewksbury, North Andover, Lawrence and Lowell.

Through the use of a “buddy system,” participants are able to play regardless of their abilities, and receive on-field support in all aspects of the game.

The season starts April 26 with an opening day ceremony and parade through downtown Andover. Games will be played on Saturdays or Sundays at newly built Deyermond Patk in Andover. They last about two innings and organizers say the object is for participants to have fun playing baseball with no outs or runs counted. They say the focus is on friendship, fun and play, not competition.
