Andover youth field hockey programs seeking coaches

Andover Youth Services is looking for coaches for its school-year middle school and youth field hockey programs.

Entering its 10th year, the AYS field hockey program will give over 100 participants in the third through eighth grades the opportunity to learn and compete through practices, scrimmages and games, said Tony Lombardi, program coordinator.

Middle School Field Hockey

The middle school program is open to players in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. This group meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons for a practice, scrimmage or game. The season begins at the end of August and runs through the end of October. Games are scheduled for 3:45 p.m. and can be played at home (Andover) or away. Away games will have bus transportation from Andover High School.

“Playing and coaching experience is preferred for this group, however, it is more important that interested individuals be energetic and engaging while offering our young participants the opportunity to learn and grow as players and people through hard work and respect,” according to Lombardi.

The Andover Youth Services is looking for two head coaches for this program.

Youth Field Hockey

The youth field hockey program is open to players in the third, fourth and fifth grades. This group will meet two evenings per week to cover the basics of field hockey through drills and scrimmages. Games may be scheduled with local town programs/teams later in the season based on the progress of the participants and with advisement from the coaches and the Andover Youth Services staff.

“Although field hockey experience would be great for potential coaching candidates, it is not necessary and any interested individual will be considered.” said Lombardi.

The Andover Youth Services is looking for a head coach and an assistant coach for this program.
