The Andover Townsman
---- — A competitive field turned out for Saturday’s annual Indoor Triathlon at the Andover/North Andover YMCA.
This year, the event was renamed in honor of 66-year-old Roger Smith of Andover, an avid cyclist and member of the local YMCA who competed in the triathlon since it was introduced nine years ago. Smith died in October 2012 from injuries suffered in a bike accident.
Several of Smith’s family members were on hand for Saturday’s event.
The triathlon was open to adults, children and teams, including both members and nonmembers of the YMCA. All the action, including the swim portion in the pool, the cycling portion on stationary bikes and the running leg on the treadmill, took place inside the YMCA’s 165 Haverhill St. facility.
