Christopulos leads field hockey to emotional victory

Georgina Christopulos scored two goals to lead Andover past Danvers 6-0 on Friday in a game that honored late Andover resident Colleen Ritzer. Brianna Smith, Brenna Keefe, Caroline Curtin and Catherine Devaney each added a goal and Nicole Schena made two saves for the shutout.


Briana Smith and Jacquelyn Leone each scored a goal to lead Andover past North Andover 2-0 last Thursday, Oct. 24. Weezie Gross and Christine Aumais each assisted on a score and Nicole Schena made a save for the winners.


Kelly, Collins pace Warriors

Matt Kelly scored one goal and Declan Collins netted the other for Andover in a 2-0 win over Central Catholic. Alex Gray and Sebastian Silveira each had an assist and Mike Weber made five saves for the winners.


Declan Collins scored two goals, one in each half, as Andover played Lowell to a 2-2 tie last Tuesday, Oct. 22. Alex Gray and Sam Kelly each assisted on a goal for the Golden Warriors.


Van Antwerp, Andover keep rolling

Emily Van Antwerp and Courtney Grygiel each scored one goal and assisted on another as Andover beat Lowell 3-0 last Tuesday, Oct. 22. Lily Puccia added the other goal and Emily Masterson needed to make just one save behind a great defensive effort for the shutout.


Andover played Methuen to a 0-0 tie on Saturday.


Facing the state’s top team, Andover fell to Central Catholic 5-0 last Thursday, Oct. 24.


Aruri takes fourth

Leila Aruri was fourth overall in 19:01 to lead Andover to a third-place finish at the MVC cross country meet last Saturday with 118 points. Chantal Kellerd was next in for the Warriors (17th, 20:29); Sarah Rothmann was 21st and Cate Donovan was 37th.


Winning streak at 18

Mackenzie Kennedy and Sarah Kenyon each had 16 service points to lead Andover past Methuen in its regular season finale, 25-19, 25-18, 25-14 on Monday. Addy Kennedy added three digs for the winners.


Azita Bakhtyari notched 30 assists and five blocks to help pace Andover to a 25-15, 25-16, 25-19 victory over rival Central Catholic last Friday. Sarah Kenyon had 16 service points and four aces and Wylie Boughton added 10 kills for the winners.


Chelsea Hu recorded team-highs in kills (12) and digs (4) to help lead Andover to a 25-9, 25-10, 25-11 win over Winchester last Wednesday, Oct. 23. Addy Kennedy added 23 service points and five kills, Azita Bakhtyari had 27 assists and Rachel Schnakenberg had four blocks for the winners.


Warriors tie rivals

In a battle of state powerhouses, Maeve Awiszus won the 500 freestyle (5:13.26) and 100 backstroke (1:01.86) as Andover tied Chelmsford 93-93 last Friday. Chelmsford entered the meet 13-0 and Andover 10-1 before the tie.

Rachel Landry took the 50 freestyle, Emilee Nason took the 100 butterfly and Shannon Fitzsimmons won the 100 breaststroke for the Golden Warriors.


Galat shines

Max Galat ran a 17:19 to place 23rd overall and lead Andover at the MVC cross-country meet on Saturday. The Golden Warriors finished seventh as a team (203 points).
